The relationship between voluntary job selection and burnout level in nurse candidates

Relation of Burnout Level with Volunteer Occupation Selection in Nurse Candidates Aim: In this research was carried out determine the level of burnout related to volunteer job selection in nursing candidates. Material and Method: The research is a descriptive type of study. The universe of the study consisted of senior grade students studying in the first and secondary education of the 2015-2016 academic year which in Siirt University and Inönü University nursing department. The survey was conducted between November 2015 - October 2018. İn the researh was not selected sampling. 383 people who is entire the universe was aimed to reach and 359 people were reached. The "Personal Information Form" prepared by the researcher and the "Maslach Burnout Inventory Student Form" developed by Schaufeli et al. And implemented in Turkish by Çapri, Gündüz and Gökçakan were used for data collection. The data obtained from this study was evaluated using the SPSS 21.0 statistical software at computer. Frequency and percentage distribution, the arithmetic mean, analysis of variance, kruskal-wallis , t-test and Cronbach's alpha coefficient was used for evaluation of the data. Results: 46.8% of the students participated in the study were girls, 53.2% were male. 63.2% of the students are graduated from high school, 29.2% are from Anatolian-science high school, 5.6% from technical high school and 1.9% from high school of health. 51.8% of the students settled with their own preference, 31.8% with family-friend orientation, and 16.4% with family-friend preference. The majority of the students (66.3%) chose the nursing profession because of the ease of finding a job. There was no significant relationship between age and high school type and burnout level and there was a significant relationship between gender and economic status and burnout level. It was determined that there was no meaningful relationship between students' preference of department and burnout level (p<0,05). It has been determined that there is a significant relationship between the voluntary career choice, having information about the department, satisfaction from the department, desire to continue to work and the desire to make an academic career and burnout level (p<0,05). Conclusion: A significant relationship was found between voluntary occupation choice and burnout level. According to the results of this research, it is suggested to increase the awareness about the importance of voluntary occupation selection in the students and to emphasize the scientific studies in this subject in order to clarify the dimensions of the relationship Keywords: Burnout syndrome, Candidate nurses, Volunteer job selection
