Abstract (EN)

Objective: The aim of this research is to determine the impact of training provided to nurses and midwives, from the perspective of malpractice, on their knowledge level and views regarding the use of the ventrogluteal (VG) site in intramuscular (IM) injections. Material-Method: The sample of this planned study, using a quasi-experimental design with a single-group pretest-posttest model, consists of nurses and midwives working at Süleyman Demirel University (SDÜ) Hospital who agreed to participate in the research. The research was conducted in three sessions between April and May 2024. Research data were collected using the Introductory Information Data Form, VG Site Usage Opinion Form, Malpractice Information Form, and VG Site Knowledge Form. In the analysis of the data, mean, standard deviation, median, mode, minimum, and maximum values were calculated. For the comparison of pretest and posttest data, Friedman and Wilcoxon signed-rank tests were used. Results: Among the participants, 78.5% were women, with the highest participation rate in the age group of 29-39 years. Positive differences were observed in the knowledge levels regarding the use of the VG site and malpractice before the education. The average knowledge score on VG site use was 3.56±2.40 before the education and increased to 9.24±0.84 after the education. The malpractice knowledge score increased from 4.12±2.08 before the education to 8.70±1.32 after the education. Additionally, it was determined that the increase in the participants' knowledge levels influenced their views on the VG site. Conclusion: It was concluded that the training provided to nurses and midwives from the perspective of malpractice regarding the use of the VG site positively affected both their knowledge levels regarding the VG site and their knowledge levels and views on malpractice risks in IM injections. It is recommended that in-service training programs for nurses and midwives focus on the use of the VG site and the reduction of malpractice risks.
