Özet (EN)

Objective: To examine the profiles of nurses working in hospitals in Kosovo, Pristina. Method: The population of the research consists of the nurses (1937 people) working at 7 hospitals in Pristina, Kosovo. Since the whole of the population was aimed to be reached, not any sampling method was utilized. The data were obtained from 707 volunteers and accessible nurses with no absence or on sick leave. Nurse profile form was used in collecting the research data. This form was developed in the light of literature and consists of 4 parts and 54 questions. Arithmetic mean, frequency, and percentage distribution were used in analyzing the data. Findings: Of the nurses having participated in the study, it was found that 35.7% was between the ages of 33-39, 86.3% was female, 79.3% was Vocational school of health graduate, 86.3% had a medium socio-economic level, and 83.5% had a good health. It was determined that 25.0% of the nurses have worked as a nurse for 11-15 years, the number of patients they provide services every day is 14,2± 9,00, 54.7% of them work 40 hours weekly, and 50.5% work in shifts. 57.1% of nurses stated they love their profession, 78.4% is not a member of any professional association/syndicate, 85.1% has not participated in any scientific research, 62.9% do not have a special branch certificate, 53.7% partially like performing his/her profession, 68.9% are happy with their salary, 56.6% like the working environment, and 46.7% indicated that the status of nursing profession is equal to other professions. 66.6% of the nurses stated that the level of professional autonomy at their institutions is at medium level; whilst at the level of Kosovo is 64.1%. 36.9% stated they had never thought of leaving their institution within the next one year. Result: Our findings indicated that the majority of the nurses working in Pristina, Kosovo work at a state hospital, have sufficient clinical experience, mainly consist of women, the educational level of whom is low, and their socio-economic status and autonomy is at medium level.
