Investigation of professional self-efficacy and job satisfaction in nurses

Abstract (EN)

nvestigation of Professional Self-Efficacy and Job Satisfaction in Nurses This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted between 31.12.2021 and 31.12.2022 to examine the relationship between nurses' professional self-efficacy and job satisfaction. The population of the study consisted of nurses working in inpatient health institutions in Turkey, and the sample consisted of nurses who agreed to participate in the research. The study was conducted with 217 people. Data were collected from nurses who agreed to participate in the study online, using a questionnaire consisting of a nurse information form, Nursing Profession SelfEfficacy Scale (NPSES) and McCloskey and Mueller Job Satisfaction Scale, prepared on "Google Forms". SPSS 20.0 statistical package program was used in the analysis of the data. In descriptive statistics, mean±standard deviation, median, number and percentage were given in categorical data. Shapiro Wilk test, Spearman correlation analysis, Mann Whitney U test, Kruskal Wallis test, Bonferroni corrected Dunn test were used. The mean total score of NPSES was calculated as 63.80±11.26 and the McCloskey and Mueller Job Satisfaction Scale total score average was 2.54±0.64. A weak positive correlation was found between the McCloskey and Mueller Job Satisfaction Scale total score and the NPSES total score, the Quality of Patient Care Subscale, and the Occupational Conditions Subscale, ranging from 0.230 to 0.273 (p<0.05). McCloskey and Mueller Job Satisfaction Scale Satisfaction with Working Time, Satisfaction with Colleagues, Satisfaction with Interaction Opportunities, Satisfaction with Professional Development Opportunities, Satisfaction with Recognition and Appreciation, Satisfaction with Autonomy and Responsibility sub-dimensions, and the total score of NPSES Quality of Patient Care Sub-Scale Occupational Status Scale and statistically significant weak correlations were detected between 0.125 and 0.394 in the positive direction (p<0.05). Positive and statistically weak correlations were determined between the McCloskey and Mueller Job Satisfaction Scale Satisfaction with Family and Work Balance subdimension and the NPSES total score and the Occupational Conditions Sub-Scale (p<0.05). In the study, a relationship was determined between the two concepts and it was recommended to give importance to job satisfaction as it will contribute to the development of nurses' job satisfaction and professional self-efficacy.
