Determining the caring attributes and professional manners of nurses

This research is a kind of supplementary research which aims to determine the nurse's caring attributes and professional manners. The samples of this study are the 360 nurses working in Adnan Menderes University Research and Application Hospital, Pamukkale University Health Research and Application Center, TC Ministry of Health Aydın State Hospital and TC Ministry of Health Denizli State Hospital . In gathering the data, "Nurse Introduction Form" which consists of the sociodemographic attitudes of nurses, "Caring Behaviors Inventory-24", and "Inventory of Professional Attitude at Occupation" are used. The data is gathered by face-to-face interview method, and analyzed by using SPSS 18 package program. Before data analysis, the data set is analyzed by Kolmogorov Simirnov in terms of normality. In analysis of the data Spearman Brown correlation technique, Kruskal Wallis variance analysis and Mann-Whitney U test are used. The average age of the nurses in the research is 30.83±8.02, % 87.8 of them are women. Total point average of Caring Behaviors Inventory-24 is 5.20±0.6, the point average of the sub-dimensions of the scale is 5.27±0.68 in terms of assurance dimension, 5.50±0.59 in terms of knowledge-skill dimension, 5.10±0.74 in terms of being respectful dimension, 4.93±0.82 in terms of connectedness dimension. The highest score that is gathered from Inventory of Professional Attitude at Occupation is 160, the lowest score is 67 and the average point is 137.39±16.29. There is a positively moderate relationship among professional attitude at occupation point, caring behaviors point and the sub-dimensions of inventory which are "assurance", "knowledge-skill", "being respectful" and "connectedness". Although it is found a meaningful difference among caring behaviors point average and the institution, age, work of experience, the clinic where they work and their working position, no meaningful relationship is determined according to education and gender. It is only determined with professional attitude at occupation of nurses point average that there is a statistically meaningful difference among the institutions where the nurses work. As a result, it is gathered from the study that nurses caring attributes and professional levels are high and there is a positively moderate relationship between nurses' caring attributes perception and their professional manners.
