Abstract (EN)

This study was planned to analyze the relation between nurses' personality traits and work life balance. The research was conducted online in a descriptive and cross-sectional design in a private and a university hospital in Istanbul between April 30 and September 30, 2023. The sample of the study consisted of 188 nurses who met the research participation criteria and volunteered. Data were collected with the Information Form prepared by the researcher, the Five-Factor Personality Scale and the Work-Life Balance Scale. The data were evaluated on a computer using the SPSS 22.0 statistical program. Descriptive statistical methods, independent groups t-test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and post hoc (Tukey, LSD), Pearson correlation and linear regression tests were used in the analysis of the data and were evaluated at the p˂0.05 significance level. Ethics committee and institutional permissions were obtained for the research. IN the research 87.2% of the nurses participating in the research were women and 68.6% were 30 years old and under; It was determined that 69.1% were single, 60.5% had an income less than their expenses, and 72.9% had a bachelor's degree. It was found that the nurses' work life balance total score (3.29) was above the average, and among their personality traits, the emotional instability score (2.547) was the lowest and the compatibility score (4.016) was the highest. It has been revealed that age, department of employment, length of time working in the profession, shift type and daily working time affect work life balance and all its sub-dimensions. When we examine at the literatures, it is suggested that there are few studies on work life balance and personality in the field of nursing and therefore they need to be developed, the most important personality trait affecting work life balance is emotional instability, and it is recommended that the institution should conduct personal development seminars and studies to ensure emotional control.
