Abstract (EN)
In this study titled "Psychoanalytic Analysis and Differences of Hermann Hesse's Modern Novel "The Steppenwolf" and Elfriede Jelinek's Postmodern Novel "The Pianist" the novels "The Steppenwolf" and "The Pianist" were analysed with the technique of psychoanalysis. Since both literary works differ in terms of the period in which they were written, modern and postmodern periods were mentioned. These periods were analysed on the works. Before moving on to the analysis part, under the title of the relationship between psychoanalysis and literature; the starting point of psychoanalysis, its relationship with literature, its current position and the names such as Sigmund Freud, Carl Gustav Jung and Jacques Lacan, who have shaped this concept from the emergence of psychoanalysis to its development, are given. In the section on Hermann Hesse and modernism, Hesse's life is analysed. In the following section, the relationship between modernism and literature is analysed, then the plot of the novel "The Steppenwolf" is transferred and the literary features of modernism are determined on the novel. Afterwards, the work was analysed with the method of psychoanalysis. In the last part, the life of Elfriede Jelinek is given and the relationship between postmodernism and literature is presented. Then, the plot of the novel "The Pianist", which is the subject of the study, is presented. Afterwards, the literary effects of postmodernism, which is effective on the work, are given. Then the novel was analysed with psychoanalysis technique. In the conclusion section, the answers to the questions that form the hypothesis of this study are mentioned in the light of the findings obtained, and the differences observed between the novels " The Steppenwolf" and "The Pianist" are given.
