Abstract (EN)
Thermal energy storage (TES) is a key technology to increase efficiency of solar energy in industrial applications. In this study, laboratory scale packed-bed TES system was built and new sustainable and low cost sensible thermal energy storage materials (STESMs) based on demolition wastes (DW) were developed to analyze its performance in industrial solar applications below 200°C. The results showed that STESM developed from DW has good thermal and mechanical properties. It is recommended as a potential low‐cost STESM for industrial solar applications up to 750°C. The lab-scale packed-bed filled with new STESMs attained 67% energy efficiency at optimum operating conditions, that is 10% higher than similar studies in literature. The scaled up TES system integrated with solar plant in food industries can provide approximately 40% saving in fossil fuel consumption. Key Words: Thermal energy storage, Sensible thermal energy storage materials, Solar heat industrial applications, Packed-bed, Demolition waste
