The study was conducted in order to determine the compliance of the patients with hypertension to drug treatment and its affecting factorsin accordance with the descriptive cross-sectional study design. The study's universe constitutes 154 hypertensive patients who applied to Akdoğan Health Center between the dates December 2016 and February 2017. During the research process of the study sample was not chosen, but the universe has been studied, and with those who accepted to participate voluntarily in the study. Sociodemographic Data Form' and 'Affiliation to Drug Therapy / Compliance Self-efficacy Scale' were used as data collection tools. Moreover, Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskal-wallis H test were used in the statistical analysis of the data. According to the results obtained from the research; 44.2% of the patients were 61 years old or older, 66.7% were women, 83.7% were married and 45.6% were primary school graduates.77.6% of the patients do not match with the coming income and 77.6% of them live together with their spouse. When the characteristics of the patients participating in the research were examined, 38.1% of the patients‟ hypertension duration was between 2-6 years, and 66% had no other chronic diseases besides the hypertension. In addition to these, 70.7% of the patients go to control once a month, 70.1% know the name of the hypertension drug and 76.2% know the side effects of the drug they use. 69.4% of the patients found that they used hypertension medication once a day and 91.2% of them use it regularly.95.2% of patients participating in the study have their bloodpressure measured once a week and 97.3 % of them do not use medication to remind them to take medication.72.8% of the patients do not use any alternative methods. Luckily, no drug side effects developed in 91.8% of patients. 29.3% of the patients received education about drug use and 74.4% of them received this education from their doctor. It has been seen that patient‟s age, the frequency of going to the hypertension control, regular medication intake, frequency of blood pressure measurement, and alternative methods of controlling hypertension in drug compliance are all effective (p<.05). In hypertensive patients, it is suggested thatin order to increase compliance with drug treatment and control blood pressure of the patients‟ nurses should organize training programs and have follow up programs and control patients thoroughly.
