Abstract (EN)
INTRODUCTION:The increase in the incidence of HT is attributed to the increase in obesity in childhood, the consumption of processed foods containing high calories, fat and salt as a result of negative changes in dietary habits, decreased physical activity and increased stress factors. MATERIAL AND METHOD: The study is a case-control study conducted in pediatric patients using ACEIs followed-up with hypertension at Okmeydanı Training and Research Hospital between 01.04.2019 and 30.10.2019. RESULTS: The patient group included in the study was a total of 40 people, 16 girls and 24 boys. While 21 (52.5%) of the hypertensive patients included in the study were not obese, 19 (47.5%) were obese. The average age of the participants was found to be 15.88 ± 2.31. A significant correlation was found between the presence of obesity, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, and levels of inflammatory markers IL-1 and TNF-α in patients included in our study, all of whom were diagnosed with hypertension. CONCLUSION: Early recognition and intervention of blood pressure abnormalities in children and adolescents is important in that it may reduce cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in later life. It is thought that weight control, prevention or treatment of obesity in patients with hypertension will also facilitate blood pressure regulation and help prevent inflammation. In addition, evaluating inflammatory markers such as IL-1 and TNF-alpha in the follow-up of patients with obesity and hypertension may be a good alternative for monitoring the process.
