Evaluation of cardiovascular disease risk awareness and compliance with treatment in patients with hypertension

This research aims to study and evaluate cardiovascular disease risk awareness and patients' compliance to treatment with hypertension. This descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted with 412 hypertension patients aged 18 years and older, who met the inclusion criteria and accepted to participate in the study, who applied to Niğde Çamardı Family Health Center between April 2022 and August 2022. Research data were collected through face-to-face interviews, Personal Information Form, Cardiovascular Disease Risk Awareness Assessment Questionnaire (ABCD), and Hill-Bone Compliance to High Blood Pressure Therapy Scale (HBTS). In the evaluation of the data; the Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskal-Wallis test were used in cases where normal distribution was not provided, and Anova test was used when normal distribution was provided, and Sperman's Rho analysis was used to evaluate the relationship between the scales. The mean age of the individuals who are participating in the study was 52.56±11.43, and 67.96% of them were women. The mean ABCD score of the hypertension patients participating in the study was 33.35±7.27; The mean score of HBTS was 18.35±8.43, and no statistically significant correlation was found between the mean scores ABCD and HBTS (r=0,06; p=0,22). It was found that the alcohol use of participants, exercise status, the duration of hypertension, the presence of cardiovascular disease in first-degree relatives, and fasting plasma glucose affected the total scores of ABCD. On the other hand income status, salt use in meals, and drug use patterns affected the total scores of HBTS (p<0.05). Besides all these, educational status, profession and the number of medications used by the participants affected the mean scores of ABCD and HBTS (p<0.05). As a result of the study, there is no statistically significant relationship between cardiovascular disease risk awareness and treatment compliance of individuals with hypertension. Hypertension is an important risk factor for cardiovascular diseases, it is believed that conducting training to create awareness of patients about cardiovascular risks will both increase awareness and affect compliance with treatment.
