Abstract (EN)

XVSUMMARYEvaluation Parameters of Oxidative Stres in Hyperthyroidism andHypothyroidism SituationsHyperthyroidism is a hypermetabolic state accompanied by increased oxygenutilization, increased production of reactive oxygen species andconsequentially measurable changes in antioxidative factors. Buthypothyroidism is characterised with a general metabolic slowingdown.One of the main effects of thyroid hormones is the increase inmitochondrial respiration, which causes a hypermetabolic state withgeneration of free radicals. In hyperthyroidisim due to accelerated oxidativemetabolism in the mitochondria, there is augmented production of reactiveoxygen species (ROS). In particuler, it has been suggested that the increasein reactive oxygen species induced by thyroid hormones can lead to oxidativestres.The purpose of this study is to find out and investigate ifhyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism induce a oxidative stres and antioxidantcapacity differens.İnspite of this purpose, we measured Malonyldialdehyde (MDA) stagesas an evidence of lipid peroxidation, protein carbonyl stages as a screen ofprotein oxidation and protein sulfydryl (SH) groups stages as a screen ofantioxidant capacity of 12 clinical hyperthyroid, 13 subclinical hyperthyroid,10 clinical hypothyroid and 15 subclinical hypothyroid patients.As a result of these studies MDA levels of hypothyroid and subclinichyperthyroid groups were meaningfully high (p<0,05) according to the controlgroup, protein carbonyl levels in group of subclinic hypothyroid weremeaningfully high (p<0,05) according to the control group and SH grouplevels in subclinic hypothyroid, clinic hyperthyroid and subclinic hyperthyroidgroups were low (p<0,05) acording to the control groups.PDF created with pdfFactory trial version www.pdffactory.com
