Abstract (EN)

İn this study, our purpose was to evaluate a group of patients diagnosed recently ashypothyroidism. We measured the strength and fatigue parameters of their knee muscles byisokinetic dynamometer system (Cybex NORM) and compared with the healthy volenteers. For this purpose; 30 patients diagnosed as subclinical hypothyroidism, 20 patientsexisting overt hypothyroidism signs and laboratory findings and 30 healthy volenteers wereincluded in the study. Visual Anolog Scale was used to identify the degree of fatigue. Strengthmeasurements were obtained by the isokinetic dynamometer. Test were performed at 60°/snand 180°/sn to obtain peak torque values of knee extansors and flexors and at 180°/sn totalwork was calculated.Average VAS scores were higher in the overt hypothyroid group when compared withthe subclinical hypothyroid group and the difference was statistically significant. All of theparameters obtained from isokinetic measuraments showed significant difference between thepatients and the control groups but the difference was not statistically significant within thetwo patient groups (?.within the overt hypothyroid and subclinical hypothyroid groups)Althought has been well documented that, hypothyroidism causes myopathy, till nowthere?s not any studies existing in the literature comparing overt and subclinicalhypothyroidism and controls with the isokinetic findings.İn our study, although there was a meaningful difference between the controls and theboth patient groups, there was not an important difference within the two patient groups. From this point of view, myopathy exists during the early phases of hypothyroidism and mustbe evaluated at the moment of diagnosis.
