Analysis of Hittite treaty texts in terms of form and content

This thesis study was prepared on the basis of the Treaty Texts of the Hittite State. In the study, first of all, the political events of the Hittite State that shaped the mentioned treaties were included. The Hittite State dominated Anatolia territory during the period when it lived approximately between 1650 BC and 1200 BC. During this period, it dominated many states and principalities. In addition to the states and principalities it dominated, it also established relations with the principalities and states which it was contemporary with them. States such as Kizzuvatna, Tarhuntassha, Arzava, Hayasha and Ugarit are at the top of these states. Apart from these, relations with satellite states have also been established. Treaties between states constitute the most important part of the diplomatic traffic that occurs in the international arena. In the study, an evaluation was made about the period thanks to the letters and treaties sent by the Hittite State to other states. The study account for two parts. In the first part, information about the Hittite Empire is given. In the second part, the situation of the treaty texts made by the Hittite State in terms of form and content is discussed. The main part is the Hittite Treaty Texts, in order to evaluate the mentioned treaties correctly, the situation of the Hittite State has been discussed. In the study, it was tried to contribute to the world of science by evaluating the Hittite State Treaty texts both in terms of content and form. Keywords: Hittite State, treaty, diplomacy, Anatolia
