Abstract (EN)
The theses named "The Significance Of The Letters Within The Framework Of The Relationship Between Western Anatolia And Hittites" in which the letters between Hittites and the Kingships of Western Anatolia has been analyzed, 7 letters exposed in Boğazköy and 1 letter exposed in Ortaköy have been tried to be transcribed and translated. Not only Hittites sources which related to the political history of Western Anatolia in Hittite age (1650-1200 BC), but also Egypt sources have been studied while analyzing the subject. In addition, various proposals related to geography and localization studies of the kingships of Ahhiyawa, Arzawa, Millawanda, Mira-Kuwaliya and Shea River which had corresponded with Hittites. When we analyze the Hittite cuneiform documents and letters in which the names of the Western Anatolian Kingdoms has been mentioned, it is seen that, in several periods of the Hittite state the western Anatolian Kingdoms has been revolted against the existing authority, and the Kings of Hittites had tried to keep them under control battle and treaties. Also sometimes the Hittite Kings gained the loyalty of the rebellions by the bonds of matrimony in relation to this kind of revolts. The letters wihich has been analysed are respectively: at first, the letters which were sent/received by the King of Hittites to/from "the Great King", who is equal to, (Letter of Tawgalawa, Letter of Ahhiyawa-I, Letter of Ahhiyava-II), secondly, the letters sent/received by the King of Hittites to/from vassal kingdoms in Western Anatolia ( Letter of Milawata, Letter of Manapa-Tarhumta, Letter of Arzawa and Letter of Mashuiluwa) and lastly, the Letter of Uhhamuva which was sent to the king of Hittites by an official who is faithfull to him (Letter of Uhhamuwa). In this thesis, both the transcriptions and translations of the letters; which was sent and received between Hittites and the Kingdoms of Western Anatolia and other sources concerning the countries; which was mentioned in the letters, have been analyzed and tried to be presented as a whole.
