Abstract (EN)

This study is a commentary on the first twenty-five ghazals in the Divan of Hoca Dehhani, one of the earliest representatives of classical Anatolian poetry. Unlike his contemporaries who wrote religious-mystical poetry, Dehhani's poems were written with a more secular perspective. This study aims to explore his imagination and poetic approach. This study consists of five chapters. The first chapter explains the research topic, its purpose, its importance, and its systematic overview. The second chapter, under the heading "Theoretical Foundations" includes expound, literature, and information about Hoca Dehhani. The third chapter, under the heading "Materials and Methods", includes the materials, scope, and limitations, the difficulties encountered in the study, and the working method. The fourth chapter includes a commentary on the first 25 ghazals in Hoca Dehhani's Divan. The fifth chapter includes the findings, discussion, conclusion, and recommendations. First, the selected ghazals in this study were examined through a literature review, ensuring they had not been previously studied. The ghazals were analyzed using the classical expound method. Initially, the ghazals were presented as a whole. The formal analysis was presented in tables. Subsequently, the meanings of the words in the verses were provided, assuming they were not universally known. Each ghazal was then translated into contemporary Turkish and annotated. The metaphors used within the verses, the uses of the words in classical Turkish poetry, and the metaphorical and mystical meanings of the words were evaluated, often citing sources. The purpose of the inclusion of historical, mythological, and religious figures was determined and explained through various sources. Subsequently, the poet's associations and combinations were considered, and the literary figures were explained at the end of each verse.
