The relationship between perception of social support and future expectations of convicts

This study was carried out to reveal the relationship between social support perceptions and future expectations in the light of socio-demographic data of convicts. In this context, in order to test the hypotheses created within the scope of the research and to reveal the relationship between the social support perceptions and future expectations of the convicts according to their socio-demographic characteristics, the personal information form which was created by the researcher and the future expectations after the release were developed by Zimet and his friends (1988) and adapted to our country by Eker and Arkar (1995) and the multidimensional perceived social support scale is used.The sampling practice of the data collecting instruments was executed by the researcher in three state prisons in Ankara-one open, two close types- with the practice permission given by the Ministry of Justice. The collected data was analyzed by the help of SPSS 23 package program. The percentage and frequency values of the socio demographic data, correlation analyze, "t" test analyze and one way variance (Anova) were used in the analysis. Evaluating the data acquired in the research, it was attained that with the conclusion of correlation analyze, the repetitive criminality increases while the crime age decreases, while the perceived social support increases the repetitive perpetration and social support considerations increase as well, However, the difficulty considerations decrease after release. As the result of the t test, it is concluded that: The social support perceived from the family is higher in the prisoner group who has had meetings with the psycho social help service than the others who hasn't. The social support and the total social support score perceived from the family are higher in those who think their family will accept/own them despite the committed crime than those who think their family will not accept/own them, the social support perceived from family, a private person or a friend and the total social support score are higher in those who receive a visit by their family or fellows at the prison than those who don't. The prisoners who are paid in the prison by their families or friends perceive more social support from family, private person or friend than those who are not paid by their families or friends. The perceived social support or the future expectations do not differ significantly due to the marital status.
