An investigation into Hürriyet's vocabulary (1980-1996)

The term vocabulary, which is defined as the sum of words in a language, is very important in terms of showing the development, richness and originality of a language. In this research, the words, usage patterns and rates of Hürriyet newspaper in different time periods were examined and vocabulary was determined in the Hürriyet newspaper published between 1980-1996. For this purpose, the selected documents were examined and content analysis method was used in the analysis of the collected data. The data obtained by this method were examined from four aspects. 1- It has been determined how the vocabulary is and how it is proportionally differentiated in the number of Hürriyet newspapers examined between 1980/1996. 2- When the text types (news articles, headlines, column articles and sports news) were examined in terms of vocabulary in the examined Hürriyet newspaper issues, it was determined that it made a difference. 3- The number of Hürriyet newspapers examined was classified in terms of word origin, and the frequency of use was determined by classifying them as Turkish origin elements and Foreign origin elements. 4- It is tried to determine which languages are used more frequently among the foreign origin elements and to determine the languages which have strong langu-age exchange with Turkish. The collected data were examined thematically and the changes according to years were presented by means of graphs and tables. The period in which this research is examined is expected to be one of the original studies in the field in terms of showing changes in vocabulary. At the same time, it provides the opportunity to make more detailed studies on the vocabulary, numerical data and percentages determined by the newspaper.
