Evaluation of the effectiveness of the mobile audiobook application for individuals with cluttering

Traditional therapy methods are applied to individuals with cluttering, and it is tried to ensure that their speaking speed is at optimum levels. It was thought that the audiobook application could be effective both in slowing down the speaking rate and in maintaining this normal speaking rate. The aim of this study was to reduce the speed of speech and to maintain normal speech speed by listening to the audio book application in addition to the traditional therapy methods for individuals with cluttering. The participants of the study are between the ages of 12-45. Traditional methods such as exaggerated pronunciation, pauses in reading, stress in words and sentences, and sequential reading were applied to shape fluency in individuals with cluttering and the control group. Three separate groups were formed in which fast traditional methods were applied and there were 10 people in each group. Only one group was given the task of listening with the mobile audiobook application in addition to the traditional methods. Before applying traditional methods, an initial assessment was made for each group. In the evaluation, monologue speaking, reading, reading comprehension and looking-writing speeds were calculated. The same evaluation was made at the end of the therapy process. As a result, the expected deceleration after the applied therapy methods and audiobook listening could be more effective for improving all the symptoms of distorted speech than any other goal, but it should be noted that it is much more difficult for a fast talker to achieve and maintain a slow speed than a normal speaker. Phrase revisions and inappropriate pauses in monologue-like speech were thought to decrease thanks to the effect of listening to audiobooks, but longer therapy and larger numbers of participants are required to see the effectiveness of the therapy and the audiobook.
