Qur'anic sciences in Ibāzî's tafsīrs

In this study, it is aimed to examine the approaches of Ibâzî commentators to the Qur'anic sciences and to reveal their views on these issues. The data obtained were compared with the views of Sunni scholars. In addition, this stduy also intends to investigate the origin of Ibâziyye, whether they are Kharijite or not. In the study, Qur'anic sciences were determined through ten commentaries of eight Ibâzî commentators. The subject is discussed in terms of sciences that examine the Qur'an in terms of history, text and meaning. In the first part of the thesis, the political, religious and social situation in which the sect emerged, its brief history, its relationship with the Kharijites, its creed, political and khalqu'l-Qur'an views are given. In this section, the sect has been defined from Ibâzî and Sunni sources. In the second chapter, Ibâzî commentators and tafsir studies which have been done throughout the history are introduced. The third chapter deals with the approaches adopted by Ibâzî commentators in Quranic Studies. Their views about the Qur'anic sciences and the results they reached with these sciences are presented. This research concluded that in the first formation period, predecessors of the Kharijiyya and the Ibâziyye were the same group. On the other hand it has been observed that the Ibâziyye and Kharijiyya have both common and different views in terms of their creed and politics. But based only on these ideas it would not be a correct assessment to conclude that "Ibâziyye is a branch of Kharijiyya". The distinctive characteristic of the Kharijites is their harsh attitudes towards their Muslim fellows who do not think like them. The Kharijite understanding, which does not recognize the right to life for others, has not been accepted in the Ibazi school of thought. Ibâzî commentators, who did not act with sectarian bigotry, were fed by the exegesis literature of quite large and different sects; they took the Qur'anic sciences as a reference in perceiving, interpreting and deducing the message of the Qur'an comprehensively and authentically. The approach of the Ibâzî commentators to the Qur'anic sciences generally presents a similar perspective with the Sunni tradition.
