Ibn Hazm's understanding of ethics

Morality is one of the virtues that aims to regulate people's behaviour and tries to enable the individual to distinguish between good and evil. In philosophy, morality and problems related to morality have been discussed for centuries and remain topical today. In Islamic history, the intensity of discussion on morality has increased or decreased periodically. In this context, the ethical understanding of Ibn Hazm, who is known as one of the elites who grew up in Andalusia and whose life is as versatile as his ideas, has emerged as a subject worth studying. Ibn Hazm was interested in the sciences of philosophy, history, literature and theology as well as hadith and fiqh, and criticised the Sunni school of theology, which examined religions mutually and criticised the Sunni school of theology harshly, making extensive use of the disciplines of philosophy and logic in doing so. Ibn Hazm's main work on ethics is "Muḍāwāt al-Nufūs". Ibn Hazm says that philosophy is basically to educate the soul and that what opens the door to the happiness of the world and the hereafter is the ability to design one's life according to moral virtue. The fact that the Zahiri thought does not have much encounter in our geography and the scarcity of works on this subject reveals the importance of Ibn Hazm's understanding of morality and that it is worthy of research.
