Abstract (EN)
Drug and pharmaceutical active ingredients are sensitive to heat, so most suitable method for their sterilization and extending the shelf life is radiosterilization method. Radiosterilization is that the product is sterilized by high energy beams. Radicals formed by irradiation of the product disrupt the drug's mechanism of action and may generate toxic substances which can be harm human health. Therefore, it is very important to be controlled products after radiosterilization. After irradiation, formed radicals show paramagnetic properties so these controls are studied by EPR method. In this study, metformin hydrochloride, Matofin, ibuprofen and, İbu 600, Nurofen Cold & Flu drugs were investigated. Examples irradiated at 3, 5, 7, 10, 15, 20, 25 kGy with 60Co gamma source and EPR spectra were taken at room temperature. Dose response graph was plotted for each samples and fitted with six mathematical functions. Metformin is the most sensitivity sample to radiation. The results are compared with the literature and some assumptions have been made about the radicals formed in the product.
