The concept of heterotopia in interior spaces:Agu great storage building

Throughout history, the concept of space has undergone change and transformation, and in the 20th century it was discussed through various theoretical approaches. One of these is Michel Foucault's concept of heterotopia, defined as "other spaces" and explained through six principles. This thesis aims to examine the concept at the interior scale within the framework of Foucault's principles, focusing on the Büyük Ambar Building, which currently functions as an educational structure within the Abdullah Gül University Sümer Campus.The study employs documentary research, questionnaire, and space syntax analyses. The survey designed in accordance with Foucault's principles evaluated students' spatial perceptions, while open-ended responses were analyzed thematically. DepthmapX-based visibility and connectivity analyses revealed the spatial organization of the building.Findings indicate that the heterotopic characteristics of the Büyük Ambar Building can be interpreted through its interior configuration. The coexistence of multiple functions, selective accessibility, and the persistence of historical memory define the building as a heterotopic space. The study highlights that heterotopia can also be examined at the interior scale, offering a theoretical contribution to the field of interior architecture.
