Determination of suitable sowing times of some early cotton(Gossypium hirsutum L.) varieties under Iğdır conditions

This study was carried out to determine agronomical and technological propertis of different early cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L) varieties and sowing intervals under Iğdır ecological conditions. As a result of the study, it has been illustrated that the effect of sowing times on days to emergence, duration for the first ranking, time for the first blossoming, time for the first boll opening, plant height, number of product twig, boll number on the plant and unseed cotton yield were significant (P<0,05). Varieties used in the research were significantly affected to plant height, the number of bolls, unseed cotton weight, fiber finess, maturity and elasticity. When interactions taken account; plant heignt, number of bolls on the plants, yield of fiber, unseed cotton weight and fiber finess were significantly affected by varieties x sowing time interaction. It has also seen from the results that there was insignificant effect of examined factors on the number of twigs on the plants, cotton gin production, fiber length, uniformity index, short fiber content, brightness (whiteness), degree of yellowness (P>0,05). As a result of this study, it was seen that the unseed cotton yield, number of fruit branches and number of product twig in the plant reached the highest values obtained from Edessa cultivar on 20 May (484,03 kg/da). When the sowing times were compared, the first three sowing times was in the same group and the last sowing was decreased on May 30th. In this respect, the first week of May could be advisable for sowing of cotton when the weather and soil temperature conditions available at Igdir ecological conditions.
