Abstract (EN)

Iğdır has maintained feauture of being a center of attraction from past to present thanks to being at the entrance of Anatolia as a geographical location, having productive agricultural lands and the historical Silk Road reaching Europe from Asia passing here. Iğdır and its surrondings came under the sovereignty of many states in history due to these feautures and the region often changed hands between states. Iğdır and its surrondings remained under Russian administration for about 90 years from 1828 to 1917. During this period Russians tried to weaken religion, language and the feelings of patriotism by leaving the people uneducated with the policies they implemented. During the World War 1 following the Russian withdrawing from the region Armenian attacks started. In this period Iğdır and its surrondings faced many problems politically, socially and economically. In this thesis study named "Political, Social and Economical Life in Iğdır 1923-1970" after the participation of Iğdır to its homeland the political, social and economical problems in the region and the solutions to these problems were examined. In the intoduction part of the thesis, the history of Iğdır from the prehistoric period to joining the homeland is briefly mentioned. In the first part of the study, studies in the Turkish Grand National Assembly about Iğdır and its surrondings and their results, political party activities in Iğdır and the contribution of Iğdır to parliamentary elections were examined. In the second part of the study, changes in administrative divisions of Iğdır, population structure health status, social problems in the region and solutions to these problems were included. In the third part, the studies on increasing the educational and cultural level of Iğdır and their results were examined. And in the fourth part of the study, economic activities in Iğdır and studies to improve these activities were included. In this study, first hand sources were primarily used. President of Republic of Turkey State Archives documents, Turkish Grand National Assembly minutes and goverment records, Public Population Analyzes in obtaining statistics on the census, national and local newspapers and thesis, articles, symposiums and books related to the study were used.
