Investigation of idioms in İhsan Oktay Anar's "Yedinci Gün" novel in terms of structure and meaning

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to classify the idioms in İhsan Oktay Anar's work called "Yedinci Gün" in terms of meaning and structure, to determine the idioms, the usage rates of these classifications and the number of repetitions. In the study, the theoretical information about idioms, the characteristics of idioms and the studies done in this field are included. The study was carried out by document analysis, one of the qualitative methods. Content analysis was used to interpret the data obtained as a result of the research. The idioms used by scanning the work called "Yedinci Gün" were recorded and classified in terms of their meanings and structures. The meanings of the idioms in question have been obtained from various dictionaries, especially Ömer Asım Aksoy's "Deyimler Sözlüğü 2". The meanings of the idioms in the work are indicated, and the sentence and page number of the idiom used are written under the explanation of the idiom. In the light of the information obtained, the number of idioms used in the work, the most repetitive idioms and their ratios were reached. A total of 2250 idioms were used in İhsan Oktay Anar's "Yedinci Gün" work. It has been determined that 933 of these idioms are different from each other. Considering that there are 11,209 idioms in the "Dictionary of Proverbs and Idioms" database of TDK, it is seen that the idioms used in the whole of this work are about 20% of the existing idioms. The readers of this work will be dealing with approximately 20% of the idioms that exist in the language. It will be useful for studies in the field of meaning and structure in idioms.
