II. in the Constitutional Era socio-economic cultural and political reflections in humor magazines published in Izmir

Proclamation of the Second Constitutional Era (1908) was a turning point in the Ottoman history because during this era, Abdulhamid reopened the parliament, announced elections and thus ended in a way his own absolute rule. In addition, during this time, there were some developments in women's rights movement, workers' rights, press freedom, etc. Because of freedom of press, many newspapers and even some specific words or expressions that Abdulhamid banned began to appear in pages. This freedom of press was apparent also in comic papers and journals. This thesis aims to show and analyze how comic papers, published in Izmir during the Second Constitutional Era (1908-1918) viewed and described some important developments in political, cultural, social and economic life of that time. The most important of those papers were Edep Yahu, Tokmak, Zeybek, Kukuruk, Neşter, İbiş, İğne and Efe. Key Words: Abdülhamid II, Second Constitutional Era, İzmir, press, comic papers/journals.
