Abstract (EN)
Along with its geographical position, climate characteristics and suitable living conditions, Balkan Peninsula has been home to many civilizations from ancient time to modern-day. In spite of the fact that arguments have been asserted by some researchers for not being the home of persistent cultures because of being the passage way between Asia and Europe, searches have shown that Balkan Peninsula has a very old history coming from Paleolithic Period. The golden age of Macedonian State that we can trace back its roots to the 7th century B.C. undoubtedly indicated to the periods of Philippos II and Aleksandros III. Political and military successions, which were shown by Philippos II together with his ascending the throne after the death of Perdikkas III, carried Macedonia to a different point when compared to other countries at a stroke. Philippos II, who came out victorious from the struggle with the Balkan nations also initiated struggle with Greek states and he left in a superior position as well. Thus, Philippos II, who forced Balkan and Hellas to accept his political supremacy, made Macedonia as a leader state in the region in a little while. Aleksandros III, who replaced Philippos's place upon his death, followed Philippos's way. Aleksandros, who retained the authority in Balkans and Hellas again, had himself chosen as the commander of "Revenge Wars" against the Persians and created a huge empire up to Anatolia, Egypt, Middle East and India which no one could even imagine. Political, social and cultural affairs within this period constitute the main theme of our dissertation. KEY WORDS: Macedonia, Philippos II, Aleksandros III, Hellenistic, Anatolia.
