The Reign of Ramesses II and Egypt-Hittite Relations

Ancient Egyptian civilization emerged a deep-rooted culture, which has survived under the rule of many successful pharaohs, from the years it emerged on the stage of history to the period when they were destroyed by the Roman Empire. In addition to science, art and architecture, many pharaohs who achieved outstanding achievements in the field of war and diplomacy made the Egyptian civilization a prominent country in the international arena and contributed to the ancient world and today's history by laying the building blocks on Egypt's way of becoming a great civilization. In this context, undoubtedly among the most successful pharaohs of ancient Egypt, Ramesses II is located. Combinig the warrior aspect of his predecessors, Thutmose III and the diplomatic skills of Amenhotep IV (Akhenaton), he carried Egypt forward with developments in war and diplomacy during his reign. In addition, many of the temples, monuments, tombs and cities built with the architectural activities carried out based on the restoration ideal undertaken in the country arouse admiration as the rarest works of the ancient world that have survived to the present day. In this context, with our thesis, it is aimed to reveal how much the politics exhibited in international relations and Egypt's successes with these policies have shaped history by looking at the art of war and diplomacy from the window of the period of Ramesses II. In addition, by referring to the activities of Ramesses in the country, it will be examined to what extent he shaped Ancient Egypt and what kind of contribution he made to the Egyptian civilization. In this study, besides the sources belonging to the period of Ramesses II, the written texts left behind by the Hittites, the Anatolian contemporaries, with whom the most political and diplomatic relations of this period were entered, were used as a source.
