The construction process of Istanbul University Faculty of Science and Literature in the Context of II. National Architecture movement

The thesis titled "The Construction Process of Istanbul University Faculty of Literature and Science Building in the Context of II. National Architecture Period" focuses on the construction process of the building, whose project designs were completed between 1942 and 1947 by architects Sedad Hakkı Eldem and Emin Onat. Even though the building was not the sole focus of any work that explains its construction process, it was featured in publications on the architectural identity of Sedad Hakkı Eldem. Within the scope of this research, after touching upon the architecture of the II. National Architecture Period, Faculty building's design process, its architectural and stylistic features were studied. The personal archive of Sedad Hakkı Eldem, one of the architects of the building, was the main source of the thesis. It was designed in three parts in line with the building's location, period and design features. With this setup, the economic, ideological and stylistic factors that were effective in the building's design were evaluated meticulously. The focus is on the criticism the architects and the construction process were faced with because of the economic crisis under the influence of World War II and the structural changes on the building after the project designs were completed in 1947.
