Ill NONLINEAR ANALYSIS OF TWO DIMENSIONAL FRAMES Burak KAYMAK Civil Engineering, M.S.Thesis, 2005 Thesis Supervisor: Prof.Dr. Mehmet T. BAYER SUMMARY In this study two dimensional multistorey frames are linearly and nonlinearly analized by using the developed computer programs based on displacement method. The results of both analyses are compared and the percentage of variations are calculated. If the variation is less than + %15 then these frames are named as low rise frames where as, if the variation is more than +%25 then these frames are named as high rise frames. When the results of linear and nonlinear analyses of two dimensional high rise frames are compared, it is observed that some important increases occur in the largest section forces and therefore critical situations arise. Thus, it is concluded that for two dimensional high rise frames, nonlinear analysis must be performed. However, in this work high rise reinforced concrete frames are subject to hypothetical lateral loads so that some theoretical investigations may be carried out. Therefore, in practice, the above conclusion may not be directly applicable. On the other hand it is seen that for low rise frames, linear analysis is sufficient.
