Özet (EN)

This study was conducted to examine the thoughts of two groups of bilingual parents whose children were diagnosed with ASD and whose children are typically developing. Both groups of parents were asked to share their thoughts about bilingualism, their preferences for their children and their experiences in using two languages with their children. For this purpose, a questionnaire consisting of 36 questions was applied to a total of 40 participants, 20 bilingual parents with children aged 2-7 years with ASD and 20 bilingual parents with Typical Developing children. As a result of the study, it was revealed that both groups had positive attitudes and thoughts towards making their children acquire the family language and raising their children bilingually. However, parents who have children with ASD stated that they mostly speak Turkish with their children because benefitting from the services and support in their children's education and making their children acquire any language seem more important than acquiring their family language or being bilingual. Although both groups had similar concerns about bilingualism, it was observed that parents with TDD children used the family language more than parents with children with ASD.
