Examination of the vocabulary of the work named "İki Dirhem Bir Cekirdek"

Language is an important element that creates a nation and directs the social life of nations. The vocabulary that exists in the language represents the history, culture, traditions and customs of those societies. Through vocabulary studies, it is ensured that the historical and cultural changes on the language are determined. Thus, the vocabulary that people have is revealed. Vocabulary contains the basic vocabulary, proverbs, idioms, reduplications, filler words, phrases/relationships, foreign words, stereotypes, terms and slang. The aim of this research is to examine the vocabulary of İskender Pala's "Iki Dirhem Bir Cekirdek"; It is aimed to examine the vocabulary in terms of elements and to classify these elements together with their frequency values. In addition, it is aimed to reveal whether the work can be used in Turkish teaching and to contribute to the studies to be made about the vocabulary of Turkish. This research was planned according to the qualitative research method. In the study in which descriptive scanning design was used, document analysis method was used. Content analysis method was used while analysing the data. While determining the vocabulary elements in the work, the opinions of Turkish teachers who are experts in their fields and a faculty member who are experts in the field of Turkish, and the dictionaries of the Turkish Language Institution were used. As a result of the research, 253 basic vocabulary, 303 idioms, 22 different proverbs, 84 reduplications, 158 terms, 6 maxims, 76 phrases/relationships, 412 foreign words, 31 slang words, 29 filling vocabulary items were found in the work. Based on all these, it has been concluded that the work, which is the subject of the research, is rich in terms of vocabulary. Keywords: Language, Vocabulary, Word, Iskender Pala
