Abstract (EN)

Defeated in the second world war, the borders in Germany was changed; the country was divided in two parts as East and West Germany. Having different political and cultural identities, different works of art has emerged in the East and West Germany. Following the separation, cold war had begun between the USA and USSR; this war in political, economical and cultural areas has brought art into a very important place for the USA and USSR. In this thesis work, a comprehensive research on the political, economical and societal evolution between 1945-1990 in Germany has been made as a first step in order to build a basis to better understand the evolution of art. To feed the same purpose, a research has been made on the evolution of art in the USA, Europe and USSR and the impact of the cold war on the art scene. Finally, various forms of art work in this time period in Germany had been compiled and the thesis topic has been enhanced with the detailed analysis of a selected work of art.
