Violence in the new media in terms of communication psychology

Abstract (EN)

New media platforms such as Twitter, Youtube, TikTok, Facebook and Instagram, which people transfer and interact with and use as leisure activities, have turned into channels where individuals express their inner worlds. It has been observed that the violence tendencies of individuals have increased, especially in the restrictions and quarantine processes applied due to the worldwide pandemic, in line with the rates of violent posts reflected in the press over the years. The elements of violence reflected in the press from the posts made on these platforms are increasing day by day, and there are discourses that refer to the previous contents of violence in the posts. The fact that it is also used as a medium where suicide acts are exhibited has begun to transform the new media into an environment of digital violence. Violence has also taken its place in the movements that started on new media platforms, and thanks to these movements, the encouragement and direction of violence has increased. In the research, violent posts on new media platforms were analyzed in three main categories: posts for suicide actions and suicide notes, threatening posts, and posts containing physical violence or inciting violence. It is also a result of this study that the preferred platforms vary according to age rates in acts of violence reflected from new media platforms. While Facebook was preferred for the display of suicide acts, it was seen that the Instagram platform was preferred for the presentation of physical violence. By using this thesis content narration method, the sharing of violent content reflected on the broadcast through new media platforms. The study is expected to develop and share in which channels for the new media platform about the future of violence. While the users who include elements of violence in their posts as a way of expressing themselves are discussed in the context of the dark triple personality, the iv possible situations that such posts can cause in other users who are in the position of spectators are also mentioned within the framework of the concept of alexithymia.
