Abstract (EN)
This study was conducted to determine the effect of listening to music during the active phase of labor on perceived labor pain and anxiety in pregnant women who gave birth for the first time. It was carried out as a semi-experimental research. The research data were collected between the dates of 15.05.2019-26.04.2021 in the pregnant school and delivery room of Hitit University Erol Olçok Education and Research Hospital. A total of 53 primiparous pregnants, 26 of whom were in the intervention group and 27 in the control group, were received in the study. In order to collect the data in the study, the Data Collection Form for the descriptive characteristics of the pregnant women, the Delivery Room Pregnant Follow-up Form for the knowledge of the pregnant in the delivery room and about the delivery; Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) was used to measure the pain levels of pregnant women, and Spielberger's Trait/State Anxiety scale was used to measure the anxiety level of pregnant women. A music was listened to the pregnant women in the intervention group, provided that it was not less than 20 minutes during the active phase of labor and when the cervical dilation was around 5 and 7 cm. No intervention was made to the pregnant women in the control group, except for routine procedures. In both groups, pregnant women were accompanied from admission to the delivery room until the end of delivery. The pain levels of the pregnant women in the intervention and control groups were evaluated twice in total when the pregnant women entered the active phase and their cervical openings were around 5 to 7 cm. Anxiety levels of the pregnant women in the intervention and control groups were evaluated three times: firstly, trait anxiety at the pregnant school, and state anxiety when the cervical dilation was around 5 to 7 cm when they entered the active phase in the delivery room. The data gained in the research were analyzed by statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) 21 package program. As a result of the study, there was no statistical difference between the groups in terms of socio-demographic and obstetric characteristics and trait anxiety levels of the pregnant women in the intervention and control groups, and the groups were similar. It has been found that music reduces labor pain and anxiety of pregnant women. As a result, it has been observed that music is effective in reducing the pain and anxiety of pregnant women during labor. According to the results of the research, it is recommended that pregnant women should be encouraged to listen to the music they want as long as they want during labor.
