Comparison of pain perception in patients who had first time caesarean section and post cesarean section

This study aims to assess the patients pain level decisively and to enable the patients to experience the least pain.The study was done between 06.10.2010 and 24.12.2010. It includes the patients who have cesarean section in gynecology clinic of 19 May University Hospital and Samsun Gynecology And Pediatrics Hospital. The sample group consist of 216 patients who are hospitalized in Gynecology Clinic of 19 May University Hospital And Samsun Gynecology Pediatrics Hospital and who accept to take part in this study.İn the study the questionnaire which consist of 9 questions and Mc Gill Melzack pain questionnaire form were used asking in detail about women?s demographic properties, previous cesarean section and experiences about pain after operations.Chi-square test, Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskal ?Wallis test were used in data analyze and statistical significance is quoted at the p<0.05 levelIt is found that the average age level of patients is %29.10,all of the patients are married, %54.2 of them graduated from primary school,%76.9 of them are housewives, %53.7 of them have previous operations ,%57.7 of them experienced more pain in their first cesarean section, %61.2 of them were anxious before operation , %71.8 of the patients who have had more than one cesarean section were more anxious in their first cesarean section ,%55.09 of patients were hospitalized in Samsun Gynecology And Pediatrics Hospital.The Patient points which are obtained from parts of Mc Gill Melzack pain questionnaire; p=0.20, p=0.117, p=0.804, p=0.868.This result shows that there is no meaningful statistical distinction in the pain assessment between the patients who have first cesarean section and the patients who had post cesarean sections.Key Words: Pain, The Assesment of pain, Nursing, Mc Gill Melzack, Cesarean Section.
