Investigation of the effect of distance education on muscle skeleton problems in primary and secondary education individuals

Abstract (EN)

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which is considered within the scope of epidemic diseases of 2020, all systems have become stagnant. With a rapid adaptation, education and training activities were carried out on computers, televisions, tablets and/or smart phones within the scope of distance education. In our study, which was planned considering this information, it was aimed to examine the effect of distance education on MSP (Musculoskeletal System Problems) in primary and secondary school individuals. This work, it was carried out with a total of 70 healthy volunteers between the ages of 7 and 15 who received distance education. Participants were asked to fill out an evaluation form questioning their sociodemographic information. As part of the assessment, the Cornell Musculoskeletal System Questionnaire (CMDQ) was used to assess CISP, the Ovako Working Posture Analysis System (OWAS) to assess working posture, the New York Posture Assessment Test (NYPT) for posture analysis and the OSHA Ergonomics Adaptation Scale to evaluate the work environment from an ergonomic perspective. In our study, when the distribution of pain according to regions was examined, it was determined that neck pain was seen at the highest rate of %34,3 (n=24). Following this, it was observed that the back (%32,9, n=23), waist (%28,6, n=20) and shoulder (%15,7, n=11) regions respectively. When the CMDQ risk levels were examined, it was determined that the participants were mostly in the "moderate danger" group (%30, n=21). A significant difference was found between the duration of use of technological devices according to the presence of pain in the shoulder (right), hip and foot regions of the participants (p<0,05). A statistical relationship was found between the duration of use of technological devices and the frequency of CIS (Musculoskeletal System) pain (p<0,05). A statistical relationship was found between gender and CMDQ risk levels (p<0,05). The risk levels of girls were determined to be higher than boys. A statistical relationship was observed between the types of technological devices and the score of the upper back posture (p<0,05). The findings obtained in our study, showed that distance education paved the way for the formation of CISP in primary and secondary school students. It has been observed that long-term use of technological devices with repetitive movements and ergonomic factors in the working environment are risk factors for CISP.
