Investigating the relationship between narcissistic personality tendencies and organizational identification levels of primary and secondary school teachers: The case of Antalya city

Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study is to put forward the relationship between the narcissistic tendencies of the primary and secondary school teachers who work in the central districts of Antalya city (Muratpaşa, Döşemealtı, Konyaaltı and Kepez) and their organizational identification levels. While collecting datas from teachers, quantitative research approaches has been used. The study was designed in the relational-screening model which is a general screening model. The sample of this research consisted of 357 teachers including 153 women and 204 men. The datas were collected through a scale which consisted of 3 parts. In the first part there is information about the demographic information of teachers such as the gender, age, the marital status, the education, the occupational and the institutional tenure, and the districts of teachers' schools. In the second part, the Organizational Identificaton Scale (OIS) which examines the organizational identification levels of the teachers was used. The scale consists of 3 dimensions; consistency, identification and interiority. The last part of the scale is The Narcissistic Personality Inventory (NPI), which examines the narcissistic tendencies of the teachers. NPI comprises of 6 dimensions; superiority, exploitativeness, authority, self sufficiency, entitlement, and exhibitionism. Before implementation, necessary permissions were taken from Ministry of National Education, then the schools were visited one by one and fulfillment of the questionnaires are provided on the basis of valuntariness. To examine differences by gender and marital status of the teachers in the analysis of data t- Test and to analyze the differences between the the education, the occupational and the institutional tenure, and the districts of teachers' schools, ANOVA techniques were used. for the intergroup comparison tests made to the scale and the sub-dimensions Mann-Whitey u test was used in the comparison of two-group variables; Kruskal Wallis h test was used in the comparison of three-or-more-group variables from the non-parametric test techniques.According to the research findings, there is a positive relationsip between the variances of teachers' narcissistic personality traits and their organizational identification.
