The reflection of primitive architecture concept to contemporary architectural approaches through the techne/technology reviews of Martin Heidegger

The information obtained from the ways of making and spatial organizations of primitive layouts include the first ideas and methods that can be reflected in contemporary design approaches. Primitive layouts, dealt with by the concept of 'techne', which Heidegger defines as a method of bringing to the existence, have the potential to be regarded as a one-time understanding that is differentiated with environmental and cultural influences. However, with the developments in the field of technology, architecture starts to lose the insights about the essence of designing and making in primitive architecture produced with techne. Especially the modernism, the industrial revolution and the incorporation of systematic processes into the architectural production intensify this effect. This leads to rediscovering the approaches that are self-registered in the nature of making by using technological and systematic methods. Thus, 'technology', which is the way of production of contemporary approaches, moves away from the 'techne' essence and leads to the emergence of architecture separated from the place, culture, and experiences. Although technology leads to new opportunities and experiences in construction methods and spatial contents, its use in architecture is reduced to a superficial level. This usage of technology is discussed through Heidegger's criticisms of 'technology'. In this context, it is researched whether it is possible to transfer the insights of knowledge, methods, and experiences used by primitive architectural layouts to new structures and settlements through new technologies. The questions such as to what extent or by which parameters this transfer will constitute the context of the subject studied.
