Özet (EN)

This study has been made on 300 teachers and 381 students in the elementary schools about why student involvement is low and isn't at desired level. The main hyptosesis is that the students are ready and willing to involve the lesson in the first years they started school, but as time passes the desire is lost slowly because of the teacher's attidutes, school environment.and educational system. This hypotesis is being tested by applying an enquiry to the high classes in the elemantary schools, that is applied easily. And teachers', who teaches in the elementary schools, point of view and attitudes has been taken at the same subject. We put in work the independent variables which would affect the answers. But the hypotesis mat for the students, school's condition, the number of brothers and parent's job will affect the answers isn't confirmed. And for the teachers the variables; seniority, marital status and having children didn't affect the answers. Hovewer students age and class affected their involvement and this confirmed our main hypotesis. As we compare teachers' and students' point of view, it has been seen that there were important differences in the answers. In the future, studies about this subject must be made in forward classes, system's and teachers' faults must be established truly, and as the faults must be eliminated, needed pro-service and in-service education must be determined. Key words: student involvement, effective involvement, communucation in classroom, participation in classroom discussion
