The relationship among elementary students? test scores of level determination exam, course achievements, science processing skills and logical thinking skills

The purpose of this study was to determine if there are relationship among 7th and 8th grades students? test scores of science and technology section on Level Determination Exam and science and technologj course grades, science processing skills, logical thinking skills and course achievements. The sample consisted of 325 seventh and eighth grades (female = 149, male = 176) from three elementary school in Bolu. Data collection was done during the Spring semester of year 2009. At the end of semester the Test of Integrated Processing Skills II (TIPS II) and Test of Logical Thinking (TOLT) were administered to assess students? mentioned skills. After finishing the semester students were taken a nationwide exam called Level Determination Exam. After analyzing the data collected in this study, the resultsshowed the followings:? There was a statistically significant correlation between students? course achievement and achievements on the Level Determination Exam.? There was a statistically significant correlation between students? achievements on the Level Determination Exam and science processing skills.? There was a statistically significant correlation between students? achievements on the Level Determination Exam and logical thinking skills.? There was a statistically significant correlation between students? course achievement and science processing skills.? There was a statistically significant correlation between students? course achievement and logical thinking skills.? It was also found that there was a statistically significant difference between mean scores of males and females on the Level Determination ExamThe findings of the present and previous studies are compared, and the possible effects of the present studies on teaching, learning and assessment for science and technologyare discussed.
