Abstract (EN)
This study was conducted to explore and make suggestions to eliminate the misconceptions on chemistry concepts which are periodic table, chemical bondings, chemical reactions and asid-base.633 8th grade students from four schools which are Ağa Ceylan, Hasan Şükran Saruhan, İstiklal Ve Nasrettin Hoca Primary Schools, in Etimesgut in Ankara in 2007-2008 fall semester were enrolled in the study.During the treatment first, all the students were taken chemistry concept test and then, after the evaluation of the test, four students for each class who took close scores to the mean and the students who took the top scores were interviewed by using essay type test. Research data were analyzed by using SPSS and Microsoft Office Excel. As a result of the study identical results were found within the previous studies and the new misconceptions were determined.There are recommendations for science teachers about determining and eliminating the misconceptions which can be applied during the teaching-learning processes and evaluation parts. There are also recommendations for the curriculum designers.KEY WORDS: primary school, science education, chemistry concepts, misconception.
