Determining of health literacy levels of working in primary education (The case of Batman)

Abstract (EN)

This study aimed to determine the health literacy levels of teachers working in public schools in Batman city center. The study was conducted with 440 teachers working in official primary schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education in the Central District of Batman Province in the 2024-2025 academic year. Statistical analyzes of the study were conducted with SPSS 23 program. Turkey Health Literacy Scale-32 was used to determine the health literacy levels of the participants and analyzes were made with T-Test and ANOVA in comparing two or more groups. As a result of the research, it was determined that in the sub-dimension of ‘’Using/applying health-related information’’ according to the education level variable, in the sub-dimension of ‘’Accessing health-related information’’ in favor of participants with low monthly income according to the participants’ monthly income level variable, in the sub-dimension of ‘’Accessing health-related information’’ in the sub-dimension of ‘’Treatment and Service’’ and ‘’Preventing Diseases/Improving Health’’ according to the participants’ health evaluation variable, in the processes of ‘’Understanding health-related information’’ and ‘’Using/applying health-related information’’, participants with a ‘’Good’’ health status were found to have higher health compared to other participants. It was observed that there was no significant difference between the participants’ age, gender, marital status and professional experience variables. As a result of the research, the participants’ health literacy levels were determined, and suggestions were developed on issues such as conducting similar studies at secondary education levels and in many professional groups so that the society would have information about health literacy, etc.
