Game design for fourth grade primary school students to create environmental awareness in game and physical activities

Environmental pollution has become a appreciable problem upon the industrial revolution. Today, the extend of environmental pollution has increased gradually and has become a serious problem threatening our world. There is a need to take adequate measures to solve the problem and to create environmental awareness from early ages. Over the centuries, games and toys have been significant tools that can support children's development and contribute to their learning with ease. Early ages are the periods in which children are most open to learning. Researches indicate that the role of games on child development is great. It is considered that games can be used as training tools. From this point of view, the game was chosen as a tool to create environmental awareness at early ages. The aim of this thesis study is to teach children environmental awareness entertainingly and to present a game design that can help create environmental awareness. The research consists of three parts. In the first part, general information about environment and environmental pollution is provided. Environmental protection, environmental awareness and environmental education are emphasized. In the second part, the importance of games, the educational games and the effects of games on the child development are mentioned. In addition, the purpose and scope of the physical activity course are given. Finally, the third part consists of the game design process and the works done.
