Assessing the activities in the science textbooks for the 3rd and 4th grades of primary schools in therms of scientific process skills

This study was conducted in order to assess the activities in the science textbooks for the 3rd and 4th grades of primary schools for in terms of scientific process skills. The document review method, one of the qualitative research approaches was used in the study. The documents used in the research the 2019–2020 academic year are the textbooks published by the Ministry of National Education and accepted as FBDK in primary school 3 and 4 grades for 5 years. the purpose of the research, FBDKs of primary school 3rd and 4th grade were examined within the scope of observation, measurement, classification, savind data, hypothesizing, using data, creating model, changing and controlling variables, experimenting under the title of BSB in the curriculum of the course. The availability table of scientific process skills developed by the researcher and scientific process skills rubric that were rearranged by taking litareture were used as data collection tool in the study. Percentages and averages were used in the analysis of the obtained data. While BSB of saving data, using data and observing were mostly included in the activities of the primary school 3rd grade of FBDK , it was determined that BSBs of the "changing the variables" and "experimenting" weren't included at all, with the least included skill was the hypothesizing. In the activities of the primary school 4th grade of FBDK, while BSB of saving data, using data and observing were mostly included, it was determined that the last included skills were in the BSBs of changing and controlling the variables, hypothesizing and measuring. As a result of the study, it was concluded that the BSBs in the activities in both primary school 3 and 4 grade of FBDK is not evenly distributed. It is among the suggestions of the study to update the activities in the primary school 3rd and 4th grade FBDKs in a way that includes the SSBs in a balanced way.
