Comparison of the reading motivations of the primary school 3rd grade students with the reading motivations of the parents

Abstract (EN)

In this study, the reading motivations of primary school 3rd grade students and their parents reading motivations were examined and it was examined whether there was a relationship between reading motivations of the students in the study and their parents reading motivations. In the sub-problems of the study, it was aimed to examine whether the reading motivation of the students differed according to gender, education level of their parents, age of their parents and professional status of their parents. Scan theoretical model of the universally based on the survey form grade 3 students and parents who are educated in in two primary schools in Konyaaltı and Serik districts of Antalya in the 2017-2018 academic year. The study workable sample determined from the study consist of 101 students and their parents studying in the mentioned schools. In the study, Reading Motivation Inventory adapted to Turkish by Yıldız (2010) was used to determine students reading motivation and Adult Reading Motivation Inventory adapted to Turkish by Yıldız, Yıldırım, Ateş and Çetinkaya (2013) to determine adults reading motivation. The study is descriptive and according to the findings of the research conducted on the basis of screening models, it was observed that parents' reading motivations were not found to have a significant effect on children's reading motivation.
