Investigation of the relationship between the disciplined mind attributes and STEM attitudes of elementary school 4th grade students (Afyonkarahi̇sar sampling)

In this study, it is aimed to reveal the disciplined mind characteristics and STEM attitude levels of primary school 4th grade students and the relationship between them. The sample of the study consisted of 537 primary school 4th grade students studying in Afyonkarahisar province in 2018-2019 academic year. Disciplined Mind Characteristics Scale developed by the researcher and STEM Attitude Scale which is adapted from Guzey, Harwell ve Moore (2014) to Turkish by Aydın, Saka ve Guzey (2017) for 4th-8th level students were used as data collection tools. Frequency, percentage, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, t-test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), LSD test and Kruskal Wallis H test, simple and partial correlation analysis were used to analyze the data obtained in the study. According to the results of the study, disciplined mental characteristics and STEM attitude levels of 4th grade students were determined to be "I agree" level. While there was a significant difference in the disciplined mind characteristics of the 4th vii grade students in terms of gender, father education level, mother profession and father profession variables, STEM attitude levels differed significantly according to the subscriber status of only scientific journal. It was found that there was a positive correlation between the disciplined mind characteristics and STEM attitudes of 4th grade students.
