Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study is to determine reading habits of primary school 4th grade students.The research is based on embedded (built-in) research design of mixed method. 243 fourth grade students who are in the five primary school in Maçka district of Trabzon province participated in the first part which is based on quantitative research. 15 parents and 15 teachers selected through sampling of the purpose of these students participated in the interviews based on qualitative methods with the quantitative findings are discussed. In this study as a data collection tool a questionnaire of 25 questions in the quantitative section, the qualitative part in the qualitative research methods used in semi-structured interview and the interview form was used. In the survey, students demographics (location, gender, frequency of reading parents income level students of computer and their time on the Internet), the book profiles the levels of students reading habits (the habit of reading a regular book, the frequency of reading books outside of the textbook, the number of books read outside of school textbooks in the last 1 year they have students the habit of reading their mother or their father's books), the reading preferences of students (they read the type of books they have read books topics book features to consider when choosing a book they read publications) reaching students beyond textbooks and reading books in their free time students status of students using the library the purpose of the most factors were determined. Also, students'views about the reading habits of their teachers and parents were tried to be understood. In the quantitative size of the study datas were analysed with SPSS software and the analysis obtained as a result of the survey performed in frequency and percentage analysis, the qualitative dimension of the study with 7 teachers in semi-structured interview technique,the data obtained through the interview form from 8 teachers and15 parents were analyzed by descriptive analysis. In the provision of the data representative examples are given for this group. At the end of the study, it was inferred that primary school students read book regularly. Also viewed in terms of the frequency of students reading the book, it seems that they read book regularly every day. Reading time is found to be effective in that students love reading. It was determined that students have less than 10 books outside of the textbook. In addition, it has been seen that outside of textbooks, students read 6-10 book in the last year.It was inferred that their parents read sometimes. Students prefer story books as a type and adventure books as subject. Students pays attention to the topic the most while choosing the books. It has been seen that students prefer the magazines the most out of the books. The students'parents buy the books that they will read. Students use the library to get the story and the novel. Television has emerged as an obstacle to students reading. According to the teachers, reading time is found to be effective in the students'love reading. According to teachers and parents, students prefer the type of story the most in the books.Teachers stated that there was library in their classroom and they bought the books in the library themselves. Parents stated that there was library at their home and they bought the books in there themselves. While teachers stated that there has been library in their school but they don't use it enough, parents stated that there hasn't been a library where they are and that they don't use the library. Teachers have shown the lack of a model family as a cause to students'not love reading.
