The competency levels of the primary school teachers towards teaching of free activities course in the primary school programme(A sample of Şırnak)

This study was aimed to determine the competency levels of primary school teachers towards the teaching of free activities course in primary school programme. In this context, the opinions of primary school teachers were surveyed by The Assessment Scale of Free Activities Course (SEDDÖ). Also, their opinions were interpreted according to independent variables such as gender, seniority, and locations of their schools. For obtained data, survey technique was used. The sample was created among the permanent primary school teachers in Şırnak in 2013-2014 academic semesters with using random sample method. The SEDDÖ which was developed by researcher was used for the obtaining data. After checking the normal distribution, the obtained data was analyzed by SPSS. In the analyzing data, while frequency, mean, and standard deviation were used to determine the opinions of the primary school teachers, Mann Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis-H were used to determine relationships between their opinions and independent variables. As a result, although the primary school teachers partially have had the ability to teach the free activities course, they have believed that free activities course is so beneficial for developing their students such as collaboration, technology literacy, individual differences of students, and inter disciplinary education. Also, they have had positive opinions about the free activities course despite of lack of materials. Furthermore, while male teachers have used free activities course more then female teachers, teachers with five years seniority have believed free activities course essential for students more than others
